Worker at Ledgewood NJ Gas Station Charged with Criminal Sexual Contact, Allegedly Groped Woman
Police recently arrested a Ledgewood NJ man who allegedly groped a woman at a local gas station.
The incident reportedly occurred on January 19, 2016. According to law enforcement, the 53-year-old suspect committed the sex crime at the BP station located on Route 46 in Ledgewood, NJ. Ledgewood is an unincorporated community in Roxbury, New Jersey.
The victim dialed 911 and told police that the suspect was a male attendant at the gas station. He allegedly grabbed the victim’s breast as she tried to pay for gas at the station.
Police investigated the allegations and eventually determined that enough evidence existed to place the suspect under arrest.
The suspect was subsequently charged with criminal sexual contact.
As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:14-3, criminal sexual contact is typically classified as a fourth degree felony. A conviction for fourth degree criminal sexual contact could lead to a sentence of up to 18 months in NJ State Prison.
Additionally, a person who is convicted of a sex crime such as criminal sexual contact can potentially be required to register as a sex offender under Megan’s Law.
After being arrested and processed, the suspect was remanded to the Morris County Jail in Morristown, NJ. He was being held at the correctional facility in lieu of $10,000 bail.
